Men’s Golf Overview

The modern version of golf traces it creation to Scotland in the 1500’s.  The oldest, most well-known golf course in the world is St. Andrew’s in Scotland, which was created in 1574.

Golf is an interesting game, because unlike other sports, the course of play is not standard.  Courses can be longer or shorter, nine holes or 18 holes, easy or difficult, all depending on the whims of the creator and the space available.  Most 18-hole courses have a “par” of 72, which means the person playing should try to play the 18 holes and hit the ball no more than 72 times.

In Minneapolis, golf began during the 1922-1923 school year.  For a number of seasons, the teams would play two seasons in one school year, a fall season and a winter season.  Today, golf is played in the Spring.
