Men’s Track Overview
Track and field is a sporting contest where individuals compete in various events to accumulate points for their team score. Track is one of the oldest sports in the world, having been contested in the ancient Olympic Games.
Events have changed throughout time. In the early years of Minnesota High School competitions, events were run using standard system, funning in yards. In the 1970’s, schools slowly began changing to the metric system. Today, all races are run in the metric system, usually in meters.
Field events have also changed over time. At one time, the javelin was used in competition. Today, it is not.
The first track meets in Minneapolis were held during the 1899-1900 school year.
